Weekly Korean words with Jae Korean101.com videos episodes 16-20

Korean101.com produces a youtube video every week called, "Weekly Korean words with Jae." I have reproduced the sentences they create here, because for myself I find that the subtitles go way too fast and having to stop the video every few seconds is irritating. I thought that other people may have the same problem and this might help them. I haven't corrected the English grammar of the subtitles, so you will see that some times it is a bit awkward when you read the English translation.

My Little Kitchen Season 2 Episodes 9-12

Arirang television produced a second season of "My Little Kitchen." The last episodes of this series.

Episode 9 Part 1 Bean Sprout Soup with Rice.

Almost done with this series, can't wait. Fabien's voice is so grating.

Part 2 Boiled Fish in Soy sauce.

I've never seen anyone fry the fish before boiling it, seems a bit weird.

Episode 10 Part 1 Beef Mushroom Hot Pot.

It seemed like a bit of a waste to make your own broth, but not use the ingredients from the broth for the soup.

Part 2 Spicy Stir-fried Rice cakes with Fish cakes.

Yeah..., no. Please use Maangchi's recipe if you want to make ddukbokki, thanks.

Episode 11 Part 1 Rice-cake Soup.

Traditional recipe, mostly no liberties taken.

Part 2 Marinated Grilled Beef Slices.

This is a type of sanjeok, and used to cooked on skewers. Some times ground beef is used and shaped into square patties, like a burger.

Episode 12 Part 1 Soybean Paste Stew.

I would replace half of the potato with zucchini.

Part 2 Korean Three-colored Pasta Soup.

Why couldn't they just call it sujebi in the title, like they did in the video? Also, I would not call this pasta, dumpling is more accurate.

My Little Kitchen Season 2 Episodes 5-8

Arirang television produced a second season of "My Little Kitchen."

Episode 5 Part 1 Bulgogi with Rice.

It looked good until the cream sauce was added.

Part 2 Donggeurang Ttaeng, Chili Pepper Pancake, Shitake mushroom .

Mostly traditional, so not messed up.

Episode 6 Part 1 Soft Tofu Stew with Seafood.

Another more traditional recipe, so much better in my opinion than the fusion food that was shown before, except where is the gochujang???

Part 2 Dumplings.

Standard recipe.

Episode 7 Part 1 Pumpkin Rice with cheese.

Cheese? Everything was okay, until they added the cheese. Luckily the cheese is easy to leave out. I'm really, really not liking this series.

Part 2 Chicken Puffs.

Meh.

Episode 8 Part 1 Seaweed soup.

From far away this looks okay, until he adds soy sauce to the soup.

Part 2 Mung Bean Pancakes.

I hope people aren't making Fabien's recipes and thinking that is really what Korean food tastes like.

Currently watching: This awful series, unfortunately.

My Little Kitchen Season 2 Episodes 1-4

Arirang television produced a second season of "My Little Kitchen."

Episode 1 Part 1 Ssamjang Kimchi Fried Rice.

Honestly I don't like Fabien's voice at all. I find it very grating and annoying. It is very hard for me to watch any show that features him. To me, this recipe is unappealing and I wonder what Arirang was thinking featuring this recipe. Who puts ssam-jang(쌈장) in their fried rice(볶음밥)???

Part 2 Steamed Bulgogi with Tofu.

Unfortunately more Fabien, hopefully someone else eventually narrates this program.

Episode 2 Part 1 Kimchi Jjigae (with Pork and Tomatoes).

Fabien, again. Tomatoes aren't native to Korea, so any Korean recipe you see with tomatoes in them has been altered to add them.

Part 2 Mushroom Steak Stir-Fried Rice.

I have to admit I have been fairly disappointed by this series so far. And that isn't just because of Fabien. The dishes have looked unappetizing so far.

Episode 3 Part 1 Stone bowl Rice with beef .

Cheese? Everything was okay, until they added the cheese. Luckily the cheese is easy to leave out. I'm really not liking this series.

Part 2 Rolled Omelet with Kimchi.

I was all YAY! A real Korean recipe, until they added the sugar, and then it was just yuck.

Episode 4 Part 1 Dakyukgaejang.

This actually managed to look okay.

Part 2 Gimbap.

Finally, a classic recipe, except when they put the sugar in the tuna, yuck. Hopefully the recipes will start getting better.

Currently watching: This awful series, unfortunately.

The King of Food episodes 10-14

The King of Food was a series shown on the Korean television station KBS. It was also uploaded to the youtube channel KBS World TV.

The premise of the show from KBS, "What if a constitutional monarchy still exist in Korea in 2014? "'The King of Food' with picky taste, Shin Dong-yeob has invited star guests to his dinner. Guests need to answer a quiz to try rare food, which the kings used to eat. Food fighters are having a fierce battle to take the best food. Who will get the King's Food at the end?"

There is a special ingredient(s) each episode and the celebrity contestants are quizzed on their food knowledge. The team that wins gets to eat. As usual, don't watch the show if you are hungry, it'll just make it worse.

Episode 10: Meal for Heart of Steel (강철 심장)

Guests are: Um Honggil, Park Sangmin, Hong Kyungmin, Lee Seungshin, and Gang Yebin.
This episode centers on food that has the benefits for a strong heart. Um Honggil recommends mackerel, as that is what he took with him on his trek to the tops of the Himalayas. And King of Food recommends red bell peppers.

Episode 11: Feast for Menopause (갱년기)

Guests are: Dokgo Yeongjae, Jo Yunho, Kim Minhui, Hwang Sohhee and Im Yejin.
Suggested ingredients for menopause are cabbage and kudzu root.

Episode 12: Feast for Fatigue Recovery (피로회복)
EDIT: May 24, 2019 I don't know why, but KBS made this episode, and only this episode private on their youtube channel.
Guests are: Lee Mangi, Cho Jungchi, Kim Sook, Jung Joonyoung and Girl's Day Bang Minah.
Chicken and red ginseng were recommended to relieve fatigue.

Episode 13: Feast for Growth (키쑥쑥)

Guests are: Heo Gyeonghwan, Kim Jisun, R.ef's Seong Daehyeon, After School's Lizzy (Park Soo-young), and Sung Sikyung.

Episode 14: Feast for Summer Vacation (피서지)

Guests are: Kim Wansun, Girl's Day Lee Hyeri, Song Jungeun, and Byeon Umin
King of Food recommends female octopus, abalone, sweetfish (은어), handmade tofu with pine nuts, sturgeon and to revive your body while on vacation. They start a new format in this episode that I don't really like.

Hogwarts Crest cross stitch

Here is my current project, I saw this picture on pinterest and knew that I wanted to start making it right away. Jasmine has over 2 years until her 11th birthday, but we want to do a Harry Potter themed birthday using the first book.
 photo 0027e0cf-3d7d-497e-ad0d-8b9f5fb8edee_zpsslwzsgzp.png

Which started me looking for the pattern, which I did find here

I also found Scienceandart's modification ideas on Deviant Art, which you can see here

I didn't like that Hufflepuff's background color was blue, and that Ravenclaw's was a lighter blue, so I started making modifications to the chart in my head.

So, here are my supplies, except I forgot to get a background yellow for Hufflepuff.
 photo 0874c39b-0a23-498a-839b-6c36c11fb16f_zpslxbnr7pi.jpg

Here is about 3 hours of work. I was thinking here that I was going to regret that upper left serif on the right side of the H. I wanted to change the H color, because I didn't want it to seem that Hogwarts would favor Gryffindor. So, I wanted to make it look a bit more like stone.
EDIT: May 24, 2019 Photobucket started charging for hosting pictures, I am looking for a new place to keep my pictures, hopefully this one will be back soon.
 photo f53ecca1-ded0-4a78-8e47-d6b3c874765c_zps8irnqn4s.jpg

Here is almost 6 hours of work. Yeah, I am regretting that corner of the H, even more so now that the lighter grey is filled in.
EDIT: May 24, 2019 Photobucket started charging for hosting pictures, I am looking for a new place to keep my pictures, hopefully this one will be back soon.
 photo 88cba119-c831-4baf-a322-10687cc3ef63_zps0ruhg3dm.jpg

And here is just over 10 hours. I went back and changed the color to black on that upper right side of the H, I think it looks much better now.

Learn Korean Numbers (숫자)

Korean people use two number systems, Sino-Korean numbers, taken from Chinese, and Native Korean numbers, which only go from 1-99. You need to know both number systems because they are both used, (i.e. time is told by using both systems, Native Korean numbers for the hour and Sino-Korean numbers for the minutes.)

Here are the Sino-Korean numbers:
Arabic Korean Chinese

If you wanted to say 21 you would put the number 20, 이십, and the number 1, 일, together and get 이십일. 79 would be 칠십구. Pretty easy right?

Here are a few videos with Sino-Korean numbers 1-10.
