<Splintered Book One by A.G. Howard Paperback: 400 pages Publisher: Amulet Paperbacks (February 18, 2014) Rating: 2 out of 5 stars I don't even know where to start with this book. It was a hot mess. I really like the stories of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (and What Alice Found There) and it is very irritating when they get mixed together, glaring at you Tim Burton. |
Alyssa Gardener's matriarchal family line goes back to Alice Liddell, the original traveler to Wonderland. Alyssa is trying to break the family curse that goes back to that Alice Liddell, and save her mother, who she calls Allison.
Then there's Jeb. What does she see in him? Sure he might have an attractive outward appearance, but he's horrible to Alyssa. And then there's Morpheus, the supposedly less creepy option.
Really this book just needs a lot of help with how mental illness is treated, I figure that the author wanted to throw back to how people were treated in the Victorian ages, but we've moved on from then and there are laws now. You don't have to like a guy who treats you like crap, nor do you have to like a guy who's a creepy stalker.
